Internet Addiction Pornophilia (IAP): is it a new kind of deviation, obsession or addiction? Report of 4 cases

Summary. Internet may represent only an “ideal field” where patients can clearly express their fantasies, desires, symptoms, and attitudes, driven from anonymity and easiness access. Some users present a correlation of signs and symptoms called “internet addiction”. Repetitive performances, aimed to obtaining and consulting pornographic material (pornophilia), may easily become repetitive behaviors in the internet era. Our work was based on the observation of four cases, reached on our attention lamenting an erectile dysfunction. Sometimes a sexual dysfunction hides a masked psychiatric disorder with complex characteristics. Internet Addiction Pornophilia may be defined as recurrent, intense sexually arousing fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors involving the use/abuse of pornographic material using the internet, reporting addiction and functional impairment. This entity shares psychopathological aspects with the substance abuse, the obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and the impulse control disorders (ICD). A correct evaluation of these aspects may represent a decisive aim to a diagnosis, approach and therapy.
